The Wolverine Files

Wolverine News archives have been moved to their new home here...

11/26/2007 Edition:
--New X-Men #44 (Preview): Chapter 4 of 'Messiah Complex.' It's like we flashed back to a 1980s X-Men crossover. And not in a good way. On sale now.
--Wolverine: Origins #19 (Preview):
Between overly-convoluted plot twists and the sadistic depiction of Logan, Daniel Way and Steve Dillon continue to poison the past of a once noble character. On sale now.
--Penance: Relentless #3 (Preview):
So Speedball is now Penance. And Wolverine, for reasons unknown, is trying to stop him from launching... zzzzzzz... sorry... tryptophan and pointless comics putting me to sleep... zzzzzzzzz. On sale now.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #18 (Preview):
Genuinely dreadful series gets worse as Captain America reveals he knows ancient Greek. On sale now.
--Ultimate Marvel Sampler #1 (Cover):
Preview of upcoming Ultimate Universe storylines includes nifty Wolverine art. On sale now.

11/19/2007 Edition:
-X-Factor #25 (Preview): Chapter 3 of 'Messiah Complex' includes a rather lame Wolverine cameo. On sale now.
-New Avengers #36 (Preview): Wasn't Civil War supposed to have consequences? Can't Bendis write something stronger than the Venom-bomb? Must we suffer through this Skrull storyline? On sale now.
-Wolverine #59 (Preview): What is the only way to tell the difference between 110-year-old Wolverine and 12-year-old Wolverine? The length of his sideburns, of course. Dreadful art by the once-great Howard Chaykin. On sale now.

11/11/2007 Edition:
--Astonishing X-Men #23 (Preview): The penultimate chapter of perhaps the best X-Men series ever. On sale now.
--Uncanny X-Men #492 (Preview):
Chapter 2 of another bloated 12-part X-Men crossover. On sale now.

11/05/2007 Edition:
--X-Men: Messiah Complex (Preview): Silvestri's art has a bizarre time-traveling effect that harkens back to the painful days of 'Fall of the Mutants' some 20 years ago. As a result the intended grimness of this story is undermined by stiletto heels, impeccable makeup, perfectly-styled hair and overly suggestive poses. On sale now.
--Ultimate Power #8 (Preview):
This would have been much better if it hadn't taken 13 months for 8 issues to come out. And there's still another one the way before this thing wraps up. It seems as if Marvel has forgotten what 'miniseries' means. On sale now.

10/29/2007 Edition:
Marvel is gearing up for the next major X-Men story arc, Messiah Complex. Not sure if this means Wolverine will appear in all chapters or not, but I'll make sure to provide weekly comic updates earlier than usual to keep everyone apprised.
--Uncanny X-Men #204 (Preview): Messiah Complex prelude. Wolverine cameos. On sale now.
--Black Panther #31 (Preview): Where are the damn zombies? What a rip! Dream-version of Wolverine makes a cameo. On sale now.
--Marvel Spotlight: Marvel Zombies (Cover): Secret Wars Zombie cover with Wolverine. On sale now.

10/22/2007 Edition:
My sincerest apologies. I know I've been promising more updates to this site, but I simply have not been able to manage the time. I am committed to updating this site, but I just don't know how soon that will be. But I do endeavor to block off a day to make a bunch of those updates. And as always, those updates will be chronicled here along with the weekly Wolverine comics roundup.
--Wolverine: Origins #18 (Preview):
I'm really not enjoying this whole everything-in-Logan's-life-was-orchestrated-by-Romulus-for-no-good-reason-other-than-we-need-a-new-uber-Wolverine-villain plotline. Other than that... On sale now.
--Marvel Zombies 2 #1 (Preview):
More fun with Zombie-Wolverine. On sale now.
--Ultimate X-Men #87 (Zombie-Wolverine Variant Cover):
As much as I like Kirkman on Marvel Zombies, I'm am so bored by his run on Ultimate X-Men. It reads like just another X-Men title. I mean, what's the point?
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #17 (Cover):
I don't know who this series is written for. Not me, certainly. On sale now.

10/15/2007 Edition:
I will be re-updating 006: The Lost Years for next week to chronicle the bevy of WWI references in recent issues.
--Wolverine #58 (Preview): More on Lazaer. Intriguing concept. I just wish Marc Guggenheim had realized that the Nazis weren't around during World War I. On sale now.
--New Avengers/Transformers #4 (Preview):
Series finale. Pretty disappointing as a whole. On sale now.
--New Avengers #35 (Preview):
Cover appearance only. What a rip! On sale now.

10/08/2007 Edition:
Okay, I know I vowed to get these updates up on Sundays. Hasn't been happening the past few weeks. So Monday is my new deadline.
--Wolverine Annual: Deathsong (Preview):
Interesting off-beat story by Gregg Hurwitz with beautiful art by Marcelo Frusin. On sale now.

09/30/2007 Edition:
Busy, busy, busy! First look at Wolverine and the X-Men and Marc Guggenheim on the Death of Wolverine.
--X-Men #203 (Preview): Wolverine cameo in increasingly confusing storyline. On sale now.

09/23/2007 Edition:
--Wolverine: Origins #17 (Preview | Preview 2): I am amazed that no one, including Daniel Way it seems, realizes that the Devil's Brigade was an actual World War II commando unit. It had nothing to do with World War I. It was a Canadian-American unit designated as the 1st Special Service Force and was activated on July 20, 1942. Doesn't anyone do research anymore? See Wikipedia for more details. And the continued unveiling of Wolverine's past as mere melodrama orchestrated by Romulus, to my eyes, has cheapened his past considerably. On sale now.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #16 (Cover):
Another dreadful issue. Who, other than Wolverine completists, are supposed to be buying this crap? On sale now.
--World War Hulk: Frontline #4 (Preview):
Cover appearance only. On sale now.

09/16/2007 Edition:
--New Avengers #34 (Preview): I am not a fan of this Skrull storyline at all. And while I like Leinil Yu in general, his inking on New Avengers is too heavy and the coloring is overpowering (especially the overwhelming use of red on the inside of the eyelids). On sale now.
--New Avengers/Transformers #3 (Preview):
This series is getting dumber by the issue. On sale now.
--Ultimate X-Men #86 (Preview):
It being Ultimate week, I reread the last few story arcs of Ultimate X-Men. Kirkman is a terrific comedy writer, but his run on the X-Men has been fairly pedestrian (aside from the inspired Ultimate Cable). This series is simply meandering, the characters don't feel unique and the villains weren't that interesting when they first appeared in the regular Marvel universe. Hopefully the planned Ultimate Universe makeover will give this series new life. On sale now.
--Ultimate Power #7 (Preview):
Jeph Loeb takes over writing duties and Wolverine reappears (finally). This series would probably be a lot better if it were shorter and came out at a better clip. Nine issues over a year is way too long for a mini-series. On sale now.
--X-Factor #23 (Preview):
Brief flashback cameo in "Endangered Species" backup. On sale now.

09/09/2007 Edition: Due to recent revelations in Wolverine's early life, I have shifted events slightly in 002: The Origin and 004: The Amazing Skunk-Bear. Additionally, Wolverine: Origins Annual #1, references to Japan and fresh conjecture have been added to 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox.
--Wolverine #57 (Preview): Substantial World War I reference with lame Wolverine foreshadowing, new love interest, new nefarious organization and new villain who happens to be faster than Wolverine. Considering Marvel has been around for 45+ years, one would think they could tap into existing characters. On sale now.

09/03/2007 Edition: I've been performing tons of HTML code cleanup on pages 000 through 005 and will continue to do so across the entire site. 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox has been updated and rewritten with the addition of Wolverine #55.
--World War Hulk: X-Men #3 (Preview): Crappy mini-series wraps up with nice ending. On sale now.
--Black Panther #30 (Preview):
More fun with zombies! On sale now.

08/26/2007 Edition: Dream sequences and subsequent evolutionary theories posited by Jeph Loeb in Wolverine #50-55 have been added to 002: The Origin.
MakeMineMarvel.com: Wolverine: Origins #17 Preview
--Astonishing X-Men #22 (Preview): Best comic on the market. Oh and Wolverine appears, too. On sale now.
--Wolverine #56 (Preview): Uh. Galactically stupid issue. All I can say is at least it's better than Frank Tieri's stuff. On sale now.
--Cable & Deadpool #44 (Preview): More insane fun with Deadpool and Wolverine. And great art by Ron Lim. On sale now.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #15 (Cover Only): Another dreadful issue, Lord of the Rings style. On sale now.

08/19/2007 Edition: I don't like my recent tardiness in making updates to this site so I am instituting an earlier deadline for myself -- Sundays evenings. I hope to move updates back even earlier in the week, but this will have to do for now. While my new website, Football for Breakfast, is taking up most of my time, I endeavor to get this site back on schedule with periodic updates, starting with the dream sequences and subsequent evolutionary theories posited by Jeph Loeb in Wolverine #50-55.
MakeMineMarvel.com: Wolverine #57 Preview by Marc Guggenheim and Howard Chaykin

-Wolverine: Origins #16 (Preview):
I'm really starting to hate the way Daniel Way is handling Seraph. On sale now.
-Sub-Mariner #3 (Preview):
Cool fight, dumb premise. On sale now.
-New X-Men #41 (Preview): I really like Kyle, Yost and Young. Not to be confused with the band. On sale now.

08/13/2007 Edition: My new website, Football for Breakfast, is still taking up most of my time, but I hope to get back on track in the next week or so.
--New Avengers #33 (Preview): I really used to like Brian Bendis. But he seems so desperate to make this Skrull story about paralyzing paranoia that it just is not working for me. Anyone else agree? On sale now.
--New Avengers/Transformers #2 (Preview):
First issue was fun. This issue is lame. On sale now.
--Ultimate X-Men #85 (Preview):
Looking forward to the Jeph Loeb's Ultimatum because this series is so pedestrian right now. On sale now.

08/05/2007 Edition: My new website, Football for Breakfast, has been taking up most of my time, but I have written a brief review of Jeph Loeb's run on Wolverine.
Evolution (Wolverine #50-55):
Comic book writers tend to warn us that we are not allowed to be critical of their stories until the entire run has been completed. Well, the "Evolution" storyline is now finished. And while Jeph Loeb has shined on Fallen Son, he has been simply dreadful here, in stark contrast to the beautiful art rendered by Simone Bianchi. From the ridiculous evolutionary theories that would put any scientist to shame to the overly dramatic representation of new uber-villain Romulus, Loeb has sleepwalked his way to sloppy and cliche-filled writing. Most galling is his apparent disregard for the characters. He seems to relish polluting the Wolverine mythos, winking at us the whole time. I know this is a fictional fantasy world. But for many long-time readers, we would appreciate being treated with a little more respect.

WizardUniverse.com: Latest Scoop on Wolverine: The Movie
--New Warriors #3 (Preview): The return of cool Wolverine. On sale now.

07/30/2007 Edition: Major updates have come to a grinding halt as I've been building a new website, Football for Breakfast. I endeavor to get to fresh updates as soon as I can, but this new site (and the fifth draft of a book) is eating up all of my time.

(Preview): Aside from a few moments with Sabretooth, this storyline has been a HUGE letdown. A much more in-depth review of the whole run coming soon to a website near you. On sale now.
-X-Men #201
(Preview): Marauders triumphant. On sale now.
-Cable & Deadpool #43
(Preview): Best final page of the year. Really. On sale now.
-Black Panther #29
(Preview): "Skrull-Kebob!" More fun with Marvel Zombies. On sale now.

07/23/2007 Edition: Major updates have ground to a halt while I continue to work on other web projects. Fresh updates should return next week...
-Wolverine: Origins Annual #1 (Preview): Beautiful art and effects by Kaare Andrews. Not the secret history of Seraph I was expecting and, frankly, I am getting tired of Wolverine's entire 100 year past being intricately connected. On sale now.
-World War Hulk: X-Men #2 (Preview): Cover-to-cover fight. Kind of stupid if you ask me. On sale now.
-Giant-Size Marvel Adventures The Avengers #1 (Preview)
: Not as bad as usual. On sale now.

07/15/2007 Edition
Major updates have ground to a halt while I work on other web projects. Details to come...
-New Avengers #32 (Preview): Bendis is really desperate for us to care about Skrull-Elektra. And haven't there been Skrull possession before? Like for Wolverine? On sale now.
-Sub-Mariner #2 (Preview):
Cameo setting up next issue's battle with Namor. On sale now.
-Ultimate X-Men #84 (Preview):
I am simply not enjoying this series. The characters really feel lifeless. On sale now.
-Exiles #96 (Preview): Very, very tiny Wolverine cameo. On sale now.

07/09/2007 Edition
This week...

(Preview): Fun final issue... with another Wolverine cameo. On sale now.
--New Avengers/Transformers #1
(Preview): Yet another Marvel Universe... with Wolverine and giant robots. On sale now.
--Ultimate Power #6
(Preview): Uh... Wolverine really should make an appearance, but strangely seems to be in the bathroom for the whole issue. On sale now.

07/02/2007 Edition
This week... recent issues of Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins have been added to 004: The Amazing Skunk-Bear; 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox; 006: The Lost Years and 009: World War II.
--ComicsContinuum.com: Jeph Loeb Talks Wolverine #55 and from IGN.com: Marvel to Kill Sabretooth?
--Wolverine: Origins
#15
(Preview): 15 months and we are still no closer to any of this making sense. And you gotta love the black ops secret message Wolverine leaves in the Daily Bugle during the Epilogue. So subtle even my pet chimpanzee could read it. My kingdom for some intelligent writing. On sale now.
--X-Men #200 (Preview): The return of the Marauders and the beginning of Extinction Agenda. On sale now.
--World War Hulk: X-Men #1 (Preview): Another summer, another Marvel-wide cross-over. On sale now.

--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #14 (Cover): Who is supposed to be reading this series? On sale now.

This week... the 011: Team X Beginnings rewrite is now complete, necessitating the temporary hiatus of the chapter on Canadian Intelligence.
-MakeMineMarvel.com: Wolverine: Origins Annual #1 Preview

--Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #4 (Preview): Wolverine talks depression. On sale now.
--Incredible Hulk #107 (Preview): One panel cameo in the form of a vision. On sale now.

06/12/2007 Edition
Rewrite of 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake is now live with new Wolverine: Origins entries and comments.
--Scott P. agrees with my assessment of recent Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins issues, "I have experienced the same unidentified distaste for the current Wolverine storylines. As I read your epiphany on issues 50 thru 54, the light bulb glowed above my head as well. You are 100% correct. The talent is there but the output is highly disappointing and aggravating! In fact, I’m getting really disgusted at how Wolverine is being treated by Marvel overall. Wolverine: Origins is a disgrace; writing and art through and through. When Joe Quesada has been questioned on the lack of a long term creative team on any of the Wolverine books, he’s laughed it off. Why are they bent on destroying one of their flagship characters? And they are eliminating one of the most loved and interesting characteristics about the character; his mysterious past. I’m not even going to start on variant covers and senseless guest appearances."

--Hulk and Power Pack #4 (Cover): Minor Wolverine cameo, though the back of his head on the cover is very cool. On sale now.

06/04/2007 Edition
--Marvel.com: World War Hulk: X-Men Preview
--Wolverine #54 (Preview): On sale now. I've been trying to figure out why I am not enjoying this storyline. Jeph Loeb is a very good writer and Simone Bianchi has done some terrific pages. And I think I finally hit upon it in this issue: Jeph Loeb is not taking Wolverine seriously. The writing is sloppy (the excessive cursing, "cute" dialogue, over-the-top declarations), the pacing is dreadful (six issues to tell a three issue storyline), and despite a series of excessively confusing flashbacks, nothing really has happened. And don't get me started with lupine evolution (let's see, we have seven examples of unrelated lupine mutation, they must be a new species evolved from wolves!) And to top it all off, the final issue isn't due until 7/25.
--X-23: Target X #6 (Preview): X-23's first encounter with Wolverine. On sale now.
--New Avengers: Illuminati #3 (Preview): Secret Wars flashback with Wolverine cameo. On sale now.

05/28/2007 Edition
In a stunning upset within the comic book industry, no Wolverine appearances this past week!
--New Wolverine Files Rule: No flashbacks or revelations will be added to the chronology until the story arc is completed. As much as I want to include information as soon as possible, I am growing increasingly frustrated at the cryptic way revelations are unveiled in the current storylines of Wolverine: Origins and Wolverine.
--Information from Wolverine's profile in Civil War Files has been added to 009: World War II and 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake.

05/21/2007 Edition
Minor update this week -- Wolverine: Origins #14 added to 006: The Lost Years. Major changes coming to post-Landau, Luckman and Lake sections.
--Exiles #94 (Preview): This used to be a fun series. Unfortunately, Claremont's angst is crushing the life out of it. Features Hydra Wolverine. On sale now.
--The Ultimates 2 #13 (Preview): Ultimate Wolverine briefly cameos in this series finale. On sale now.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #13 (Preview): I actually met someone who likes this series. That makes one of us. Wolverine co-stars. On sale now.

05/15/2007 Edition
Sorry for the delay this week, but I do have some good news. I've finally had it with waiting for the final revelations of Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins to be revealed. So without further ado, I present the return of the weekly updates and 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake, version 2.0.
--Wolverine: Origins #14 (Preview): The pace of this series is killing me! I usually don't mind slower paced stories if done well (Planetary, Naruto), but between this and Loeb's Wolverine, I'm absolutely dyin' here! On sale now.
--New Avengers #30 (Preview): Surprisingly weak story and art. On sale now.
--Marvel Zombies: Dead Days (Preview): Wolverine against the zombies. On sale now.
--Black Panther #27 (Preview): Zombie Wolverine, welcome to Earth 616. On sale now.
--Hulk and Power Pack #3 (Cover): Final page cameo. On sale now.

05/04/2007 Edition
Wolverine: Origins
#14 hits the shelves next week and should clear up some questions around Cyber/Silas Burr. Hopefully enough for the updates to return with a vengeance.
--Astonishing X-Men #21 (Preview): If you are not reading this series, go right now and buy the entire run. This is simply the best X-Men series ever. Joss Whedon is a brilliant writer and John Cassaday is simply the best artist in the business. Re-reading this series this week reminded me of what it felt like when I originally read the early issues of Uncanny X-Men by Claremont and Byrne. On sale now.

04/29/2007 Edition
The agonizingly slow trickle of revelations from the current Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins storylines continues to wreak havoc on the updating of this site. I have several possible resolutions to the current spate of flashbacks, but I need to see if we will get any more information in the next issues. So please bear with me as I wait for these flashbacks to hit the tipping point.
--Wolverine #53 (Preview): Wolverine vs. Sabretooth, Round 4. Clearly we need to wait to see how this storyline will be resolved, but so far, this run has felt padded, overly dramatic and generally unsatisfying, not to mention a continuity disaster. But other than that... On sale now.
--Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America - Avengers (Preview): The anger stage. Much better than denial. On sale now
--Exiles #93 (Cover): Horrible costume for Hydra-Wolverine. On sale now.

04/22/2007 Edition
The agonizingly slow trickle of revelations from the current Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins storylines is wreaking havoc on the updates of this site. Please bear with me as I wait for these flashbacks to hit the tipping point.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #12 (Cover): Horrid, horrid series. On sale now.

04/15/2007 Edition
Wolverine: Origins #13 hit the shelves and lo and behold, no flashbacks. So updates are on hold until I can figure out how to accomodate the previous Cyber/Silas Burr flashbacks and the eyepatch Logan wears while at Jasmine Falls. Not to mention the rethinking the events to assimilate Jeph Loeb's revelations in Wolverine #52.
--Wolverine: Origins #13 (Preview): Dreadful issue. No flashbacks. On sale now.
--New Avengers #29 (Preview): Pretty good issue. And Wolverine actually gets some prominent dialogue. On sale now.

04/06/2007 Edition
I am holding off on the update to 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake until Wolverine: Origins #13 hits the shelves. I fear that I will need to move the Cyber/Silas Burr flashbacks to this chapter to account for the eyepatch Logan wears while at Jasmine Falls. And I have come to the realization that I will need to rethink the events of 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox to accomodate Jeph Loeb's revelations in Wolverine #52.
--Newsarama.com: Jason Aaron and Howard Chaykin on Wolverine #56
--Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #1 (Preview): Stars Wolverine in the Kubler-Ross phase of denial. Rather disappointing if you ask me. On sale now.
--Marvel Zombies/Army of Darkness #2 (Preview): Wolverine graces the cover but not the story itself. On sale now.

04/01/2007 Edition
Early reference to Silas Burr from Wolverine #79 added to 006: The Lost Years and minor updates made to 008: Ogun and 009: World War II.
--Kind words from J, Tovar, "Thanks for all your work on 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox. It's the clearest summary of the "Cabin" storyline on the web."
-Wolverine #52 (Preview): On sale now. My apologies in advance, but this issue genuinely deserves an extended rant. So if you haven't read this issue yet, major spoiler alert. Aside from this bizarre series of dreams we've been forced to endure, Jeph Loeb (a terrific writer by all accounts) finally reveals Logan and Sabretooth's very first meeting. A very first meeting at odds with all previous continuity. Logan claims to have met Sabretooth in Japan at the behest of the Hand. Logan speaks fluent Japanese and is adept at using a samurai sword. The only problem is that Chris Claremont has shown the first battle between Logan and Sabretooth to have taken place on the frontiers of Canada before World War I when Logan had no real fighting style. Further, it has been shown demonstrably that Logan did not learn how to wield a samurai sword until the late 1930s. Between Wolverine: Origins and this story, I fear I will be forced to move around several events from Wolverine's past. So until this storyline wraps up, I will hold off rewriting the entire chronology just to fit this flashback in.
-Ultimate X-Men #80 (Preview): Wolverine leaves the X-Men. On sale now.

03/23/2007 Edition
Minor update made to 007: The Thirties including new images.
--Civil War: Battle Damage Report (Cover): Tony Stark's report to the President includes an entry on Wolverine. On sale now.
--Exiles #92 (Cover): Earth 1720 features a ridiculously-costumed Hydra Wolverine. On sale now.
--Ultimate Power #4 (Cover): Wolverine appears, but does not speak in this Greg Land model fest. On sale now.
--Marvel Adventures The Avengers #11 (Cover): Better than usual, but still a lame series. On sale now.
--John Romita Jr. 30th Anniversary Special (Interior Art): Features Wolverine sketches and other extras. On sale now.

03/17/2007 Edition
Major update made to 006: The Lost Years including new images, Wolverine #48, Wolverine: Origins #12 and the addition of all information on Cyber.

--New Avengers #28 (Preview): The old New Avengers travel to Japan and visit a short-handed Silver Samurai. On sale now.
--Civil War: The Confession (Preview): Wolverine cameos in Tony Stark's vision of the future. On sale now.

03/10/2007 Edition
Major update made to 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox including new images, Wolverine #50 and lots more.

I really do want to update this site more frequently, but, unfortunately, I simply have not had time recently. I am trying desperately to block off time in the near future to make some significant updates to the whole site. Until then, here are this week's and next week's Wolverine appearances...
--New Avengers #27 (Preview): Wolverine returns to the new New Avengers. On sale now.
--X-Men: Phoenix - Warsong #5 (Preview): Another useless mini-series ends. On sale now.
--X-23: Target X #3 (Preview): Flashback to when X-23 first glimpsed Wolverine. On sale now.

Still busy with my short film (The P.O.B. Conspiracy) and preparing for our first film festival. Not much this week...
--ComicBookResources.com: Daniel Way on Wolverine: Origins
--Ultimate Civil War: Spider-Ham #1 (Cover): Wolverham and a little surprise on the final page. On sale now.

01/27/2007 Edition
The short film I wrote and produced, The P.O.B. Conspiracy has been eating up much of my time as we are preparing for our first film festival (see more at The P.O.B. Conspiracy website). So no updates this week other than my review of Wolverine #50.
--Wolverine #50 (Preview): The much anticipated 'final' confrontation between Sabretooth and Wolverine by Jeph Loeb and Simone Bianchi hit stores this week. Based on the emails I've received on this issue, I've decided to post my feelings in more depth than usual. This issue was a huge disappointment for me. This was supposed to be a seminal issue and it felt like they are trying to stretch this story out over multiple issues. Don't get me wrong. I like multi-part stories. But there was so much posturing and the fight sequence was so bland. These are supposed to be of the best fighters in the Marvel Universe. Where is the amazing fight?
--Kind words from Scott Paparella, "I’ll start with the props: great site and please keep up the good work! Congrats on the film festival entry! Thanks for the almost daily Wolverine fix."
--And more kind words, this time from Daniel Farina-Chouinard, "First of all I want to say that your webpage is really good, it's really up among the other Wolverine pages [which] reflects your vision of analyzing comics."

01/19/2007 Edition
Still working on the redesign, but I have been sidetracked a bit with the short film I wrote and produced, The P.O.B. Conspiracy. We just got accepted into our first film festival (see more at The P.O.B. Conspiracy website). So I've only had a chance to update the first Wolverine in Publication Order page (1974-1979) this week.
-Ultimate X-Men #78 (Preview): Must Colossus quote Ivan Drago? Interesting turn of events. In stores now.
-Marvel Adventures The Avengers #9 (Preview): It's Woldoc, the big-headed Wolverine! Please stop this series. Now. In stores now.

01/11/2007 Edition
I'll be offline for the next few days so only a brief update today. I hope to dig into the (minor) Wolverine Files redesign next week, adding new pictures and tightening up the text on the next few chapters. As noted before, you'll be able to tell finished pages by a newly added dark brown border and search, and the dubious version 2.0 notation after the title. So far I have updated the main page (this page), 000: The True Origin and 001: Wild Child.
--Wolverine: Origins #10 (Preview): I really don't want to spoil anything about this one, but I'm not sure I liked this issue. In stores now.

01/05/2007 Edition
For the New Year, I've started a rewrite and a slight redesign for Wolverine Files. Nothing major, but I felt the pages needed a slightly subtler color scheme and tightening of the text. So over the next few weeks you will find a dark brown border and search added to the rewritten pages that I am dubbing version 2.0. So far I have updated the main page (this page), 000: The True Origin and 001: Wild Child. Once this redesign is complete, I will make a more concerted effort to add new sections to the chronology (the long-delayed 031: Dark Phoenix and additional Publication Order pages).
--Civil War #6 (Preview): Captain America's file on Wolverine cameos in the background. In stores now.
--Army of Darkness #13 (Preview): Check out the last page! In stores now.
--The Classic Marvel Figure Collection #2 -Wolverine (Preview): Cool figure comes with 20 page Wolverine magazine. Very, very cool.

12/30/2006 Edition
Talk about a lot of Wolverine appearances. This week featured nine new comics with Wolverine. Whew!
--Astonishing X-Men #19 (Mini-Preview): This is what Uncanny X-Men used to be like. Whedon and Cassaday rock. In stores now.
--Wolverine: Origins #9 (Preview): Crap. Crap. Crap. I may need a major rewrite to make this story fit now. In stores now.
--Cyberforce/X-Men #1 (Preview): Fun crossover... probably takes place in the 1990s. In stores now.
--Nextwave: Agents of Hate #11 (Cover): Monkey Wolverines with banana bombs. I kid you not. In stores now.
--Ultimate Power #3 (Cover): I think Wolverine's claws appear briefly in one panel. In stores now.
--Avengers Next #4 (Cover): Classic non-appearance appearance. I hate non-appearance appearances. In stores now.
--What If? Age of Apocalypse (Preview): Interesting story with some cool Wolverine moments. In stores now.
--What If? X-Men: Deadly Genesis (Preview): Wolverine makes an alternate universe cameo. In stores now.
--All-New Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe A to Z #12 (Cover): Includes the X-Babies and Wild Thing. In stores now.
--Wolverine Poster Book: I missed this when it came out. Some terrific posters in the collection. In stores now.

12/23/2006 Edition
-Marvel Adventures The Avengers #8 (Cover): This really is a painful series to read. In stores now.

-Marvel Adventures The Avengers #7 (Cover): Thankfully, I missed this issue when it came out last month. In stores now.
-Wolverine: Road of Bones Novel (Cover): By David Alan Mack. In stores now.

--Cyberforce/X-Men Preview: ComicBookResources previews this Top Cow-Marvel crossover.
--Drawing Wolverine: The Pulse interviews Simone Bianchi, the next Wolverine artist.

-X-23: Target X #1 (Preview): Beautiful art by Mike Choi and Sonia Oback. Wolverine cameos courtesy of a Weapon X hologram. In stores now.
-X-Men: Phoenix - Warsong #4 (Preview): A pointless mini-series. Part 4 of 5. In stores now.
-Ultimate X-Men #77 (Cover): "You mess this up--you doublecross us... I'll gut you before you even see me coming." In stores now.

12/09/2006 Edition
--Unstoppable: The Pulse previews the final story arc of the Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday.
-Marvel Holiday Special (Preview): Wolverine costumes graces the cover. In stores now.

Wolverine is my favorite fictional character, and I love the fact that you're making it so easy to be a truly knowledgeable fan. Just wanted to say, don't give this up, and I'm rooting for Marvel to notice you."

10/20/2006 Edition
--Wolverine covers for January 2007: Ultimate X-Men #78; Marvel Adventures The Avengers #9; and Wolverine #50.
--From Coral McNabb, "Some of your information is inaccurate or out of order. The Unofficial Wolverine Chronology has a much more detailed and accurate chronology."
--My response, "The Unofficial Wolverine Chronology by Ronald Byrd is a great piece of research and highly recommended (really!). But it has not been updated since January 2003, and has some errors of its own (Logan's time with the Devil's Brigade, for instance, is placed during World War I instead of its historical context of World War II).
"The Wolverine Files was never intended as the sole Wolverine chronology on the web. It is merely my attempt to make sense of Wolverine's convoluted background, an effort that I have worked on in various guises for over 20 years. If anyone disagrees with any of my assertions, I would be THRILLED to engage in an intelligent discourse, as shown by last week's Wolverine News exchange with Michael Curtis Williams, now since added to 012: Team X, the Beginning."

10/15/2006 Edition
--ComicBookResources.com: Travis Charest Weapon X Commission
--Michael Curtis Williams poses a great question about 012: Team X, the Beginning, "I just stumbled upon your site, and I'm thrilled to see such a detailed chronology of Wolverine. But I'm wondering where in Wolverine #65 did you see that the CIA was trying to create a new Silver Fox? I just reread that, and didn't see it anywhere, and I've never gotten that interpretation before. If you can find exactly where that was, let me know, because I doubt that a fake Silver Fox could've gotten past Wolverine's senses. What you were saying about her not remembering the same memories that Logan did (with the prom and everything) still seems conceivable to me since everyone's memories were tampered with. If your theory is correct, it is clear that this new Silver Fox is a mutant (or she wouldn't be affiliated with Team X or targeted by Shiva), so she may have shapeshifting powers (which might explain the tentacles in Cuba). Of course, I could be totally wrong about all this, but I've just never seen this interpretation before (and I can't think of a reason for the CIA to create another Silver Fox, especially one with limited contact with Logan, and then let her become a terrorist). Let me know what other evidence that you have. Thanks, and keep up the good work."
My response, "The biggest issue I have with Silver Fox from the Team X era is that she is shown to have died undeniably some 50 years earlier. I find it highly unlikely (though not impossible) that this is the same Silver Fox. She was a normal Indian woman back in the 1910s, and the odds of having three unrelated mutants in the same mining town before mutants were even known to exist strains credulity. What was critical for Team X to exist was that Logan believe that Silver Fox was still alive, however briefly. This is the only thing that would allow him to work with Sabretooth. Since this is before Logan came to trust his animal senses (he was unaware that he was a mutant), I am hypothesizing that his handlers created another Silver Fox for the sole purpose of fooling Logan. Bear in mind that the Team X Silver Fox only makes a brief appearance during this era before disappearing. That Silver Fox from the Team X era has memories that include a prom seems to suggest that she is younger than the original Silver Fox. I freely admit that my explanation is completely unsupported in print, but I think this is a more plausible explanation."

--Newsarama.com: Upcoming Wolverine: Origins covers by Joe Quesada (Origins #8, Origins #9, Origins #10).
--Many thanks to Ken Arromdee for finding this obscure reference: "At least on the Landau, Luckman, and Lake page, you left out the Devil's Reign crossover: Ballistic/Wolverine and Wolverine/Witchblade from 1996. Unlike Witchblade/Wolverine (which takes place in one of those special crossover continuities where both series exist on the same world), in this crossover, the Top Cow universe is described as another dimension, and Wolverine is sent there by Landau, Luckman, and Lake. Zoe also appears. And it's foreshadowed in the regular Witchblade book. I think this one is in continuity." As noted above, this has been added to 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake.

--Many thanks to Scott for his appreciation of my obsessive compulsive disorder: "I love the site, have for some time. Your obsessive nature and hard work have improved my enjoyment in the hobby of comic collecting and Wolverine in general. Your site has inspired me to embark on the nigh impossible task of collecting all Wolverine’s appearances. I have a long way to go but it’s fun trying to add to my collection and not make the wife angry at the same time. Your site is by far the best on the web! And now that you’re working on the appearances list I had to send you an e-mail to remind you of that fact. I especially love the quotes and descriptions for each issue! Keep up the great work and if I ever get the chance I’ll put in a good word for you with Marvel!" So, Scott, thanks to your urgings, I present, as noted above, Wolverine Publication Order (1980-1982).

--Even more kind words, this time from Chris, "I really love your page. I've been a fan of Wolverine for quite awhile. I stopped reading comics a few years ago but I just got back into reading them last month. I've been reading random Wolverine comics but I'm a wee bit lost. Since you seem very knowledgeable of Wolverine, I was wondering if you could e-mail me a list of Wolverine comics in time order. In other words, I'm asking you, where do I start? Any help would be much appreciated."
--Help is here! I am happy to announce the launch of the first Wolverine Publication Order listing, covering 1974 to 1979.

09/16/2006 Edition
--More kind words, this time from Rich, "I love your site, it's excellent. I'm also an avid fan and especially love your 'Wolverine Appearances' updates. I'm curious if you have a complete and running 'Wolverine Appearances list.' I keep track to an extent but I'm lookng for a more accurate and complete list. If you have one, or know where to get one (beside the Anniversery issue), would you please let me know. Thanks in advance, and thanks again for a wonderful web site."

09/12/2006 Edition
--Kinds words from Walter, "I just found what I was looking for on the 'net for quite some time now: a site totally dedicated to Wolvie AND, most important, updated to the latest news! I'm a new Wolvie fan and I didn't know where to start, what to buy, which comics he's in right now... sometimes I really get discouraged and confused. I believe this character is too overexposed, and now they're trying to transform him in something more marketable (see the smoke issue...). I know I can't have everything about Wolvie, but I'll try and be content with the most important stuff about him ever published, and your work is absolutely priceless for me. Thank you so much, you did a wonderful job and I hope you keep on doing it forever!"
--So on that note, I will soon be adding a comprehensive listing of Wolverine appearances in publication order.

"I was reading with great interest your 'Wolverine files', when I read, with excitement (from 000: The True Origins), 'The strong separatist movement in Quebec even led Wein to consider making Wolverine French Canadian.' Now, I would always kid around with other fans that I thought Wolverine might be secretly French-Canadian. You can imagine my surprise reading this bit above on your site.  So I just thought I'd point out there could always be a chance that he is, depending which timeline you accept, which memories are real or not; there are quite a few French-Canadians with no accent, myself including.  I just figure only a French-Canadian would be hard-headed like Wolverine is :) And maybe that's why he likes picking on Gambit so much too lol.
